Copying & making parts in plastic.
How the times have changed. $3000US for the scan unit, $15k for the "3D printer" for a plastic model for casting or feed the scan info into your CNC unit. Leigh http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/extras/ar ... ts-1/#more

great stuff - that price is much better than it was about 2-3 years ago.
Scary thing is, I saw a doco where they are working on these 3D printers to produce artifical organs for humans...... exact replica of your own heart, just new.....

I saw one like that Sam, they copied a human ear and sowed it onto a rat (or mouse - memory fading) and it actually started to come to life. It was made of some kind of skin from memory actually showed signs it could be transplanted to a human.

The import guys up in Gympie have one of these printers if you need work done - it's what they use for doing their perfect LHD->RHD flips.
The medical ones use a UV reactive liquid that hardens when exposed to laser - from memory QUT has one of these they use for making medical 3D models skeletal parts.
